NYC Pizza

We have a great neighborhod pizza place called Grandpa's and I love love their pizza. We really have to watch how much we eat. You can get it by the slice or a whole pizza. And we love getting it "Brooklyn" style where they cut it in large slices, thin crust, and you fold the pizza in half to eat it. Mmmm. Here's a photo of one of their mozzarella and basil pizzas:

Subway in Style

Often when I take my subway line (the A Line for the curious), I often think...hmmm, why don't they update these cars? I've seen other lines with brand new cars that actually list the stops along the line and other marvelous wonders. I mean, these cars just seem a bit outdated:
But then I came the realization. Ohhhh!! They are just waiting for this to come back in style and people will flock to ride the "retro" cars.

So now I'm just waiting....

Today is a tough day. For many people for many families. Even those who didn't lose love ones or live in the NYC area were affected. It is the day that pretty much everyone remembers where they were and what they were doing when their world changed.

Today is also a happy day. Well at least for me because it's my husband's birthday. And I celebrate his life. I think the celebration of life is even more poignant on this day.

So always remember the eleventh of September. But also remember to cherish life.

Question of Masters

Every once in a while I've mentioned that I am in the process of getting my masters degree. I've gotten the question of, "what in?" so I'm just going to blab a bit.

My B.A. is in history. My childhood dream was to be an archaeologist. I used to flip through National Geographic magazines even before I could read the articles. I also have a tad fascination/hobby with art history. This could stem from my mom who is an amazing painter. This is my mom's house with a painting she did which is a copy famous painting. Can you tell which painting it is?
Back to the story...so after thinking and thinking I decided to go for a Master's degree in Library and Information Science. I'm not sure I want to be a "Librarian" per say...not that I wouldn't snag the position if it was offered. But I still love history and art so my dream is to work in a museum, archive, digital library, etc. So we'll see how it goes!

For more info on my studies, see my post from last Spring when I went to my school a few days for a class. For the most part, I have been able to do the majority of my degree online.

NYC Cafe - Summertime only!

My husband surprised me the other weekend by taking me to a little cafe that is only open during the summer season and is in a pretty cool location.

If you are on the Upper West side of Manhattan, walk West as far as possible on 79th street. You'll cross under Riverside Drive and go under a green bridge. This is looking back under the bridge:
You might be wondering where you are going. But no fear. Up ahead you'll see this:
It's the Boat Basin Cafe! This year (according to their website) it's going to be open until the end of October, weather permitting. You can sit under the blue umbrellas or inside the under the road where they have tons of lights hanging and a few bars. We decided to walk through the under road part to the back side where you can sit outside with views of the Hudson.
