Allergy Help

I mentioned in this post that I've been a little under the weather due to some extreme allergies. I recently had a blood test done and these are the foods my doctor said I should try and stay away from for a month:

Cow's Milk
Carrots
Celery
Corn
Apples
Barley
Green Bean
Oat
Wheat
------
Citrus
Tomatoes

Does anyone have any cookbooks or resources they know of for cooking/eating without using cow's milk, corn, oat, and wheat?

  2. Oh no. We just found out Dominic has peanut and shellfish allergies. Not to mention dog...I'm more upset about the dog than the peanuts, but I won't go there.

His allergist talked about the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network. They have a ton of resources and information. It might help.

    Get better soon!

  3. Yeah, I'm already allergic to walnuts/pecans, shellfish, and shrimp.

I will check out that network. Sounds like a great resource, thanks!

  4. Amanda -

You seriously need to email me - I can help! My son is allergic to: milk, eggs, wheat, soy, fish, shellfish, peanuts, treenuts, beef, and pork.

I have several cookbooks at home and can also give you suggestions on where to buy food.

Don't worry, it's not as bad as it seems!

  5. Yuck, I'm so sorry.

I have many food allergies too. I'm allergic to letucce, carrots, tomatoes, strawberrys .... basically all raw fruits and veggies.

Also, my GI is having me avoid other foods due to stomach ulcers ... so I'm trying to limit dairy too.

I recommend Soy milk for the milk part.

Gulten allergies are becoming very common, and there's lots of resources now. One of the best blogs is http://glutenfreegirl.blogspot.com/

She is also writing a gluten free cookbook with her husband, and she often posts gulten free recipes on her blog. She also has a list of recommended things: http://glutenfreegirlrecommends.blogspot.com/

As well as a recipe index:

Good luck! I hope you feel better soon.

  7. Lots of stir-fry, it looks like.

I've got a friend who's allergic to a whole list of things as well, but mostly milk, and we've found that Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World is perhaps the best thing ever. Hopefully, wheat is not what's causing most of the problem for you after the month, or you can find gluten-free wheat.

    Good luck!

  8. Allergies suck ... at least they don't have to give you like forty shots anymore and then watch to see which injection points become inflamed. Yay for RAST panels!
