(The kid who played Lyra, though, was excellent.)

Everyone else in our group, none of whom had read the books, thought the movie was quite good. So I think you did it in the correct order. ;-)

If you like children's books that aren't just children's books, I'd suggest you also check out Clive Barker's The Thief of Always. The Oceanside Animalshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16894063884048051561noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6345341059185062738.post-87765184579782067442008-10-30T18:52:00.000-05:002008-10-30T18:52:00.000-05:00I read this book in a college class about children...I read this book in a college class about children's/adolescent lit and we had the "who is this really for" conversation. I would say really advanced children/juveniles (up to age 13), but far more suitable to teens.Andihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05220718933942181809noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6345341059185062738.post-34964199889098668532008-10-30T18:38:00.000-05:002008-10-30T18:38:00.000-05:00FWIW, the reading level is set at 7th grade, and t...FWIW, the reading level is set at 7th grade, and the interest level is 9-12 as determined by Accelerated Reading levels (arbookfind.com). We read it in our YA Lit class and I enjoyed it, even though I'm not big into fantasy. I haven't seen the movie though yet!Triciahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09701299201863734003noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6345341059185062738.post-11636552899705601462008-10-30T17:53:00.000-05:002008-10-30T17:53:00.000-05:00I loved this series, but it's been quite a while s...I loved this series, but it's been quite a while since I read them. I heard a terrible review for the movie on NPR once and it turned me off from seeing it. Maybe I should try it sometime though...Jillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16939250412823477518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6345341059185062738.post-88925329829896886762008-10-30T16:43:00.000-05:002008-10-30T16:43:00.000-05:00I'm glad you enjoyed it, Amanda! But anyway, I think it's cool when children's books are a bit challenging - not enough to be boring or too difficult to understand, but enough to help improve the kids' vocabulary reading level.Ana S.https://www.blogger.com/profile/16092495983972185943noreply@blogger.com
