I didn't realise he had written anything else, so will definitely look out for Thirteen Moons.serendipity_vivhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07156013023056026525noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6345341059185062738.post-4692603207580857582009-07-07T12:40:58.547-05:002009-07-07T12:40:58.547-05:00I came at this from the opposite direction as you....I came at this from the opposite direction as you... I loved Cold Mountain but I've still got Thirteen Moons sitting on my TBR pile, making sad eyes at me that I haven't read it yet.

It's been a long time since I've read it, but I remember just getting caught up in the language and the feeling of the book, so much so that I remember almost missing my bus stop a time or two. I think the Odyssey parallels have to be intentional, because they just work so well.

I love the movie, too - I remember there being some hubbub over Jude Law's "wooden" acting, and I just thought "Well, but that's exactly how Inman's supposed to be."Fyreflyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10267651786697866292noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6345341059185062738.post-77601758452053265112009-07-07T11:20:12.486-05:002009-07-07T11:20:12.486-05:00Lisa is right -- Gone With the Wind is amazing. The follow up novels by his son aren't quite as good, but they are okay.

John Jakes also has a series of books that starts with North & South. Loved it too. That series has three books, I believe.

There are also a couple of books within a series about the civil war that I really enjoyed. Miriam Grace Monfredo has a series about a librarian in Seneca Falls, NY -- historical fiction that starts with the Seneca Falls Women's Convention in 1846 and follows chronologically through a lot of history including the civil war.

Geez. Sorry to be so wordy! :-)brainellahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11067167871454642635noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6345341059185062738.post-17862831107697272732009-07-07T10:13:43.239-05:002009-07-07T10:13:43.239-05:00I was sure someone else would have said it, but Go...I was sure someone else would have said it, but Gone With The Wind is a great Civil War novel. It's also the only one I've read, but I've read it multiple times so does that count?Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17401807675546808620noreply@blogger.com
